The level of effort is noted for the initial phase of the project, which required a fair amount of learning by each team member. We expect that with experience and teamwork, the time required for each process will improve with time.
It is important to note that the above times are the first-time efforts of each of the team members. Since the project will consist of many Sanborn maps for many years (1900, 1910, 1920, etc.), then the time required for each additional map will fall with the developing experience and competency of the team members. It is estimate that, for the purposes of completing the entire project, each Sanborn map will take about 15 minutes to georeference and the digitizing of the streets and builds will be about 45 minutes per map. It is also important to note that the project management will improve with time and that subsequent georeferencing and digitizing would be performed to speed up the steps and eliminate unnecessary consolidation of work, i.e., we would organize the project to get it done as opposed to give each of the "students" a chance to experience the joy of putting together a major GIS project!
